This prelude to the Kentucky Folklife Festival offers an afternoon of classical to calypso by the 1999 Kentucky Arts Council Al Smith Fellowship for Jazz Composition winner, pianist Orville Hammond and his Trio. This event is sponsored by the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce, Kentucky State University, Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort/Franklin County Tourists and Convention Commission, Downtown Frankfort, City of Frankfort, Franklin County Fiscal Court, Capital Area Art Guild, Bluegrass Theatre Guild, and the Capital Community Economic/Industrial Development Authority.

Noted Kentucky authors will read from their works and then mingle with attendees at the wine and cheese reception which follows in the ambience of Kelley's Garden Cafe. Winners of the poetry competition will be announced at the reading.
