Letter from the President...

Welcome to the 1999-2000 season of the Frankfort Arts Foundation. We have been busy planning during the past year to offer you some wonderful programs and performances. Beginning with the Arts Partnership Event on September 11, 1999 and ending with the Leadingham Prose/Poetry Reading and Reception in April 2000, Celebrating the Millennium is full of diversified cultural events.

New this year is Common Ground, a dance troupe performing folk, Celtic and Irish dances. The International Ballet will bring us The Nutcracker in December, featuring our young local ballet students along with ballerinas from Russia and Eastern Europe. We are very excited to have Mark O’Connor in Frankfort for the first time. Mark is a Grammy-winning violinist/fiddler who plays anything from country to classical. Mark was the Kentucky Fiddling Champion when he was 15 years old!

The Louisville Orchestra is returning to the FAF series this year -- a full orchestra, but in a new format with our first Pops Concert! Andrew Smith, opera singer formerly with the Metropolitan Opera and now with KSU, will be guest soloist. Dr Billy Taylor, jazz correspondent for CBS "Sunday Morning" and jazz director of the Kentucky Center, will join us for an evening of jazz plus a master class for the community. Of course, we include our annual community events -- a film series, local arts showcase (a real treat!) -- with your subscription for our Millennium Celebration season.

The goal of the FAF is to promote cultural enrichment in our community. Through partnership with Kentucky State University and with support from the Kentucky Arts Council, local sponsors, businesses, government, subscribers, media and friends, FAF can fulfill its mission and offer you a year of entertainment at a very reasonable price. Your subscription ensures your admission to spectacular events throughout the year, and it supports the promotion of the arts in your community and in your local schools. If you have an interest in being involved with the FAF as a board member or volunteer or if you have a suggestion for future programming, please call us at 875-4ART. Join us in Celebrating the Millennium and span the centuries enjoying the arts.

Patty Crittenden,
President
