Horsey
Hosiery
by Scoutmaster Billy S
I had been out of the Army about three years and my old scoutmaster, Mr. Cecil, was needing some help so I signed up with him for awhile with the scouts.
We were in the midst of planning session down in Cecil's basement in Thornhill. All the little boys were really interested in the where, what and when of this big trip to the Smoky Mountains.
Cecil explained that we were camping at Cosby in the Smokies, going to an outdoor play over in Cherokee and had a side trip to Cade's Cove. Furthermore, he explained that we were going horseback riding up to the top of Mount LeCompte outside Galtinburg. He also recommended that because it was going to be a long, hard, hot ride that we wear panty hose as another layer of protection between us and the horse.
We were closing out the meeting by going over simple equipment lists, uniform requirements, and the amount of money each boy would need. Cecil then ask if there were any questions.
The littlest boy we had got up and asked Cecil: "Just how do you get panty hose on a horse?"
Right then and there, that meeting was over.
