For the last few days, I have been thinking and meditating on the idea of honor. We are called to honor our mother and father from the Ten Commandments. Paul admonished us to outdo one another in showing honor. I want to thank the Church for honoring me as a part of the 50th Anniversary for our Church. We praise God for all of our clergy leaders and laity that have labored to make St Paul what is and one day will be.
I was talking to my children the other day about the 50th anniversary. They asked me if the people at St Paul now were a part of the Church when it started 50 years ago. For them, it is difficult like many of us who were not present to think of a time when St Paul did not exist. At one point in time St Paul was a new Church.
I have reflected often on the thought of what people were thinking back then. We owe thanks to our fellow UMC in our city for spurring on this vision. They had a heart to see new people reached for the Lord. St Paul also aided in the development of the KSU Wesley Foundation. There are many ways to honor the history. We are doing a great job at that. We honor our parents by caring for them in their later years. We do for them what they have so lovingly done for us.
So that leaves me with a question. How can we truly honor those who were there from the start in a genuine way that honors the Lord? Perhaps, we should carry the vision to start a new ministry to reach people for Christ. We have been in discussions about this for years now. What would it look like to start a new service or even a new Church? This vision would not be a departure from our history. It only honors and furthers our history for God’s glory.
I ask you to pray with me. I ask you to work to support this vision. May God receive the glory through us? We will be sure to give God the glory for the great things God has done.
