To register you must be a U.S. Citizen and a Kentucky resident for at least 28 days. At least 18 years old by the next general election. If you will be 18 by the November general election, then you can vote in the prior May primary election.
Must have completed a voter registration card and be registered at least 18 days prior to an election through the County Clerk or Drivers License Office when renewing your license or Federal & Kentucky mail-in voters registration form.
Kentucky allows registration as a Republican, Democrat or Other (designate political organization). Kentucky has a closed party primary election, meaning voters may cast ballots only in the primary of the party in which they are registered.
If you moved within the county, you need to nitify the County Clerk of your new address. If you have moved outside the county more than 28 days before the election day, you need to update your registration with the County Clerk of the new residence 28 days before the election.
If you wish to change your party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, you may change it at any time and remain eligible to vote in a May primary election. [The law as of 7-25-97]. You simply need to fill out a new voter Registration Card and send it to your County Clerk before the registration books close 28 days prior to an election.
Absentee Ballots
Apply for an absentee ballot at the County Clerk's office, if you meet any of these one requirements. You may request a paper absentee ballot which will be mailed to you.
Advanced age, disability, illness or medical emergency
You are a member of the Armed Forces or a dependent of the member of the Armed Forces or a citizen residing overseas
You are a student attending school outside the county of your registration
You live outside the state but are still eligible to vote in Kentucky
