The Early Childhood Center is a part of the Anderson County Public School system, providing morning and afternoon sessions to children ages 3 through 5 with a total enrollment of 487. There are six kindergarten and seven preschool classrooms. The preschool program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and two of these classrooms serve as Kentucky Resource Classrooms. The University of Kentucky and Anderson Co High School have been using E.C.C. classrooms as a placement assignment for student teachers and co-op students. Preschoolers qualify for the program by meeting specific guidelines or by paying tuition. Kindergarten is provided to any child that is five by October 1.
We believe parents and families are a child's first and most important teacher. It is our goal to build effective partnerships with parents and the community. The Early Childhood Center represents the child's first experience with the educational system. It is up to us to ensure that this is a positive experience for both the child and parents alike.
Our faculty beliefs are reflected in our Mission Statement and Vision Statement:

MISSION STATEMENT

We believe all children can learn. We want to inspire each child to reach his/her own full potential as a life-long learner through a safe and caring environment. We can help achieve this by learning through play and interaction with material, peers, and adults to acquire skills essential for critical thinking, responsible citizenship, and communication.
We believe parents and families are a child's first and most important teacher. It is our goal to build effective partnerships with parents and the community.

VISION STATEMENT

It is our vision that all children will have a positive self image, to appreciate and relate to people from all backgrounds in a positive way, to be critical and independent thinkers, and to be well founded in the basic skills.
Our staff will develop and implement programs using the education, family, and business communities. Our staff will expect high levels of performance from their students in the areas of essential school skills, critical thinking and problem solving.

We have several other Programs that are housed within E.C.C. The Wrap-Around Daycare program provides care for children who attend morning or afternoon classes at E.C.C. Child care is provided from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Family Resource Center houses an outreach worker assigned to E.C.C. She works in partnership with students, their families, school staff and representatives of community agencies to help children. There is a resource library available to parents. A variety of trainings is available through the F.R.C. directed toward local child care providers and parents. The Spirals program (Stretching Potential through Individualized Responsive Alternative Learning Situations) is an alternative classroom educational program and is specifically geared toward reducing the dropout rate in Anderson County. It consists of two components: a teen parent component and a night school component. The Regional Training Center provides training and technical assistance in the area of early childhood for 46 school districts and agencies with a variety of materials available for loan.
